Mom's Applesauce Cake. This recipe is one of those treasures I found in my mom's recipe card box. I remember her making this applesauce cake when I was young, and now I was able to make it for my kids. I have altered her recipe slightly. Mom used shortening, and I replaced it with oil. I also omitted the raisins and nuts. It is such a good feeling to be able to pass yet another recipe down to my kids. I only wish mom had a chance to make it for them. Miss you mom.

Frost, if you like. I remember mom often would just sprinkle powdered sugar over her cakes. I happened to have a tub of pre-made vanilla frosting. To spice it up I added about a ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon and a dash of cloves to the frosting.

    Serve.

I found this posting of yours completely by chance. You know how you start clicking away on a search and it up forgetting what you were even searching for in the first place? I have an applesauce cake I have made for years but when I started to read through yours, it brought me to tears. I now have grandchildren of my own and I wish my mom was still here. I always feel closest to her when I am in kitchen...I think she must love your applesauce cake!

I remember my mom making this cake when I was a little girl. She used raisins, but my daughter doesn't like them. Cream cheese frosting would be delicious on it. 🙂
