This is the best old-fashioned Applesauce Cake Recipe! This delicious dessert is a fall favorite using warm spices such as cinnamon, cloves, and allspice.
Prepare a 13" by 9" baking dish by spraying with nonstick spray or lining with parchment paper.
In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice.
In a large bowl beat the egg. Add the sugars, oil, vanilla, and applesauce. Mix well.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until blended.
Bake the cake 23-28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center of the cake. Let the cake cool.
Frost if desired.
Notes
Optional: Add raisins and/or nuts for added flavor and texture. Cream cheese frosting and plain vanilla frosting go well on this cake. Instead of frosting dust with powdered sugar or eat plain. You can use apple pie spice in place of the cinnamon, cloves, and allspice. Store the cake covered, at room temperature for up to 3 days. If using cream cheese frosting, store the cake in the refrigerator.
