Spray a 2 ½ quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Pour the cake batter into the baking dish.

Chocolate frosting dabs on top of raw cake batter in a round baking dish.

Using a spoon, scoop the frosting all over the top of the batter. This creates the gooey chocolate center while the cake cooks.

Remove the cake from the microwave and let set, with the lid still on for another 5 minutes.

Remove the lid and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve the cake while still warm with either whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Chocolate lovers will love this full size version of microwave lava cake versus the individual cakes cooked in a mug. This easy dessert is a decadent treat with its warm molten center of delicious chocolate sauce. The best part is sharing this simple dessert with family and friends.

    Recipe FAQ's

How do I know that the cake is done?

Take a peak at the cake after cooking it for 10 minutes. If the edges don't look done, continue to microwave for another 1 to 2 minutes.

How do I store extra lava cake?

Store leftover cake, covered, in the refrigerator. You can easily rewarm some later in the microwave.
