Oven-baked donuts are a hit at our house. My recipe for Baked Buttermilk Donuts (with cinnamon sugar) has been really popular so I thought I would give a homemade baked chocolate cake donuts recipe a try. I'm glad I did!

These yummy donuts do not contain any yeast, use simple ingredients, and are light and fluffy baked treats. You can add frosting or not (as thick or thin as you want) or eat them dusted with powdered sugar or plain.

    How to prepare the frosting

In a microwave-safe, small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, salt, and unsweetened cocoa powder. Add the milk and vanilla and stir well.

The frosting may be a little thick. Put the frosting in the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds. Stir. You might want to do this 2 to 3 times.

If you prefer, you can add the frosting ingredients to a small saucepan and heat over medium-low heat.

By heating up the frosting it will become thinner and you will easily be able to dip the top of the donut in to completely frost the tops.

When the frosting cools it will harden slightly. The frosting thickness will be determined by how thick or thin or frosting is, to begin with.

Store these donuts lightly covered. After a couple of days, you might notice the frosting start to weep a bit. But don't worry, I bet they don't last that long.

If you are a chocolate lover like we are, you will really like this recipe for easy homemade baked chocolate donuts. They are delicious treats that go perfectly with a glass of milk or a cup of coffee. As an after-school snack or for a perfect dessert.
