taco meat with salsa, cheese, and sour cream on a bun

I had an extra pound of hamburger in the fridge that I needed to use up, but we were not in the mood for cheeseburgers again. We had sour cream and salsa so I thought about making tacos, but we didn't have any tortillas. However, we did have hamburger buns. So, I thought... why not Taco-flavored Sloppy Joes?

As you can tell, we love to pile on the sour cream. Then we added some cheese and extra salsa. Yum! Of course, the toppings are endless... cilantro, lettuce, or no toppings at all. Whatever hits the spot!

    Ingredients needed

    • 1 pound Ground Beef
    • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
    • ½ teaspoon Onion Powder
    • ½ - 1 teaspoon Salt
    • ½ - 1 teaspoon Cumin
    • 1 cup of Salsa*

    Toppings

    • Grated Cheese
    • Sour Cream
    • Salsa
    • Hamburger Buns

    How to prepare

Add the ground beef to a frying pan over medium heat. Then, you need to start to break up the ground beef with a wooden spoon and sprinkle with the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and cumin. Continue to cook until the ground beef has browned nicely and is cooked through. Next, remember to drain off excess grease if necessary.

Now you need to stir in the salsa and heat through.

You can toast the hamburger buns if you wish. Now that the meat is ready it is time to add some ground beef mixture to a bun and top with cheese and sour cream or your favorite taco toppings.

That's it! Dinner is ready. An easy, kid-friendly recipe.

*Use your favorite brand of salsa.

I remember a long time ago Taco Bell - had Bell Burgers which were not quite as fancy as this recipe - but as a seven year old - I loved them...(note: That was when there was only one Taco Bell in Houston)

I don't remember seeing Bell Burgers here in California. It's possible we had them here and I just don't remember. LOL! (My favorite Taco Bell item was the Enchirito when I was a kid) 🙂
