If you want to try something a little different than cinnamon rolls, give these delicious Maple and Brown Sugar Rolls a try.

They smelled so good we couldn’t resist eating some right away! At least we saved a few so that I could take the pictures.
You can start with frozen bread dough or your favorite cinnamon roll dough recipe.

Maple and Brown Sugar Rolls
1 loaf of Frozen Bread Dough, thawed
(or use your favorite cinnamon roll dough recipe, her is mine)
1 Milk, warmed slightly
1/4 cup Sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
4 tablespoons Butter, melted
2 Eggs
1/2 teaspoon Salt
3 1/2 – 4 cups Flour
Slightly warm the milk, then add the sugar and yeast to it. Let the yeast mixture set for a couple of minutes until it starts to bubble.
In a large bowl beat the eggs. Add the melted butter and yeast mixture. Mix well. Add the salt and gradually start adding the flour. I add about 2 cups and give the mixture a stir, add more flour and stir, etc… Add enough flour until you get a nice dough that you can knead without it being too sticky, but not so much that the dough gets dry. The last time I made these I needed about 3 3/4 cups of flour.
Knead the dough for 3 – 4 minutes. You can do this on a floured surface or try it like I do and knead it in the mixing bowl. I use a large bowl and set it on the kitchen table so it is easy to reach. Add small amounts of flour as needed. Place dough in a greased bowl and let rest and double in size. This will probably take about 30 minutes to an hour.
Roll out bread dough to a 12″ x 14″ rectangle.
Mix together…
4 tablespoons Butter, softened
1/3 cup Brown Sugar
1 teaspoon Maple Extract
Spread mixture over bread dough. Roll up and slice into 12 pieces. Put rolls in a baking dish that has been sprayed with non-stick spray. Let raise until at least double in size.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool slightly before adding the glaze.
For Maple Glaze…
1 cup Powdered Sugar
1 teaspoon Maple Extract
1-2 tablespoons Milk
Mix together glaze ingredients. Gradually add milk to get right consistency. Make sure the glaze is a little thick if you are putting it on warm rolls. Spread glaze over rolls. Serve.
*You may get a difference in color on the glaze depending on the brand of Maple Extract or Maple Flavoring you use. The one I used here had a really light color, but the flavor was there! You may also end up with coloring more like you see on maple doughnut at a doughnut shop.
