Mongolian Beef is probably my husband's favorite food to order at Chinese Restaurants. He is also very picky about it and will travel into neighboring towns to get his favorite. I put together this Simple Mongolian Beef recipe so I can make it for him from time to time.

    Simple Mongolian Beef

Recently, while he was suffering a case of the sniffles with really bad allergies, was a perfect opportunity to make some for him. Nothing like a little spice to help with runny and stuffy noses.

    Simple Mongolian Beef

As my mom always said... "It will cure what ails you". While it didn't cure him, it did help out at the moment.

    Simple Mongolian Beef

Simple Mongolian Beef is easy to prepare and uses basic ingredients you can find at any supermarket.

    Enjoy!

    Simple Mongolian Beef

1 Onion, cut into bite size pieces
2 Green Bell Peppers, cut into bite size pieces
    1 pound Steak (thinly sliced)
    2 tablespoons Corn Starch
    Salt and Pepper, to taste
    1 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
    1 tablespoon Fresh Ginger, minced
2 teaspoon Fresh Garlic, chopped or minced
    ¼ cup Soy Sauce
    ¼ cup Brown Sugar
1 can (15 ounces) Beef Broth
    Green Onions, sliced
    Canola or Olive Oil

Heat a large, heavy skillet over medium high heat.

Drizzle about 1 tablespoon of oil in the pan and add the onion and bell pepper. Cook and stir until they softened slightly.

Toss the sliced steak with the corn starch.

Move the veggies to the outside edge of the pan and pour another drizzle of oil in the center. Add the steak, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper, ginger, and garlic. Stir and cook until the meat is just brown.

Mix together the soy sauce and brown sugar. Add to the pan along with the beef broth. Stir well and bring to a boil. Simmer about 5 or so minutes. The sauce should thicken slightly because of the corn starch. Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.

Sprinkle in the sliced green onions and serve with rice.
