Honey Wheat Dinner Rolls have a slightly nutty flavor from the whole wheat flour and a touch of sweetness from honey. Super delicious and fluffy, very easy to make.
In a large bowl, combine warm milk, honey, and yeast. Let the mixture set for 5 to 10 minutes until the yeast bubbles.
Stir in the melted butter and salt. Next, add the whole wheat flour and mix.
Add the all-purpose flour, gradually, until a soft dough forms.
Knead the whole wheat dough for 6 to 8 minutes. The dough should be soft and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover. Let rise for an hour or so until it is at least double in size.
Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. I like to place the dough on a clean work surface and press into a small rectangle, then cut into 12 pieces.
Roll each piece into a ball and place the dough into a greased baking dish. Cover and let the dough rise again, for about 30 to 45 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Brush the dough with the beaten egg if desired. Bake the Honey Wheat Dinner Rolls for 18 - 22 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool the rolls slightly before serving.
Notes
Bread Machine DirectionsAdd the ingredients to your bread machine per the manufacturer instructions. Run the machine using the dough cycle. Pick up these directions to form the dough into rolls and finish the process. You can use a stand mixer to mix and knead the dough, or do it the old-fashioned way, by hand.
