Every Christmas, my mom made this Cinnamon Apple Pie. The beautiful red color comes from Red Hots cinnamon-flavored candy.
9" unbaked Pie Shell Granny Smith Apples Lemon Juice Red Hots Cinnamon Flavored Candy or Cinnamon Imperials Apple Juice or Water Salt Sugar Cornstarch Flour Butter
Place the cinnamon candies in the apple juice or water and melt over medium heat. When the candies have melted, add the sugar, cornstarch, and salt to make the cinnamon syrup.
Melt the candies
Peel and slice the apples, Immediately drizzle with the lemon juice. When the sauce is ready, pour it over the sliced apples and mix well.
Coat the apples
Drain the apples from the cinnamon sauce, reserving the liquid. Carefully add the cinnamon syrup coated apples into the prepared pie shell.
Assemble the pie
Mix together the flour, sugar, and butter. Using a pastry cutter, fork, or even your fingers works well for this. Spread the crumb topping over the Cinnamon Apple Pie.
Bake the pie until golden brown and the apples are done. Take reserved liquid and heat over medium heat. Add a bit more cornstarch and cook until thickened. You can pour this sauce over pie or other desserts.
